Entrepreneurial Parent Profile: Alicia Pintwala & Justin Pintwala

Hi! My name is Alicia and I’m the co-founder, alongside my husband, of a new business called Slowlii, here to help you slow down and settle your mind. I’m from Toronto, Canada. I studied psychology and health prevention in school and then ended up in fundraising for our local children’s hospital, for 12 years. After having kids, I decided to take the leap and start a business.

My husband, Justin, and I have 3 beautiful + crazy kiddos! A 4.5 year old girl and two boys, ages 2.5 and 16 months old! We live in Toronto and thankfully have family close-by to help as well as a nanny — it takes a village, and we count our lucky stars every day that we have such a good one!

We created Slowlii truly out of a personal need to find ways to slow down, settle the mind and become more present throughout the day. Everyone has different instances that stress them out or cause their mind to race. For us, layering multiple babies and the pandemic on top of one another had us spinning like tops and constantly feeling overwhelmed. We wanted to incorporate tools into our daily lives, whether it be supplements, meditation techniques etc., to help us find calm. But we realized what we specifically wanted/needed didn’t exist and that’s how Slowlii got started. Slowlii is here to give your mind a break, prompting you to pause when you need it most, whether that be at home, at the office, or on the go. We recently launched with our first product – Restore. Our Restore tablets are minty tablets that take ~ 3 min to dissolve in your mouth, prompting you to pause and check in with yourself. They are formulated with KSM-66 ashwagandha, an adaptogenic herb from India that is clinically proven to lower your cortisol levels, reducing stress and anxiety and supporting vitality and performance over time.

As for parenting while running a business, it’s still a struggle! Starting a business with three young kids is no joke and while we sort of knew what we were getting ourselves into, we still find more days than not to be quite hard! One of the hardest things, especially with my partner being my husband, is probably learning to “turn it off” and switch from work to home life. You just never feel like there are enough hours in the day to get it all done.

But I will say, that I’ve learnt that I’d rather spend less time in each role, and be fully present while I’m in them, rather than try to juggle and feel like I’m doing a shi*ty job at everything. And not to plug our own business in here, but honestly our Restore tablets have helped me manage this so much better. When I’m switching from work to mom life at that 4 pm time slot every day, I take a tablet and take a few minutes for myself. Sometimes it turns into a quick meditation but even if there isn’t time for that, just three minutes allows me to refuel my mental battery before chaos walks through the door :).
